Inter CT FC celebrates Greens Farms Academy Varsity boys achievement as Class C Boys Champions.

In the Cinderella story of this year’s NEPSAC playoffs, Seventh-seeded GFA defeated top-seeded Vermont Academy in a seven-round penalty kick shootout in November to win the Class C championship. It is the first New England title for the program in recent memory.

The win comes after the school lost on penalty kicks last year.

Inter CT players Oscar Nelson, Jared Buckman, Andrew Roth & Gavin Murphy all played pivotal roles throughout the season, as well as other Inter CT alumni. They finished the season at 11-7-2. They upset second-seeded Pingree in a penalty kick shootout in the quarterfinals and then beat No. 6 Millbrook, 3-2, in the semifinals

Vermont Academy took a 1-0 lead, but an own goal allowed GFA to tie it, which ultimately led to the PKs. Greens Farms senior goalkeeper made two saves in the shootout, including one in the seventh round to clinch the win.

It must be noted that GFA was the only non boarding school challenging for a title at the FC Stars Complex in Massachusetts.

One of the benefits of playing for Inter CT is the chance to play in Championships such as this with friends from their High School. As an organization, we understand that it is these memories that are the reason players play. One of the reasons why we have aligned ourselves with the USL Academy for a player pathway is to allow elite players to continue to play High School soccer whilst playing Academy level with their club team.

Congratulations boys!
